Harmony Centre website launches in recognition of World Environment Day
Macquarie University has launched the official website for the Australian Harmony Centre for Ecosystem Futures (‘Harmony Centre’), a nature-first research initiative established in collaboration with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance.
The first centre of its kind in Australia, the Harmony Centre at Macquarie University was launched last December 2024 in partnership with the CBA, for which Macquarie is an affiliate member. It is led by inaugural Director, Professor Michelle Leishman alongside Deputy Director Professor Peter Davies.
The website details the centre’s founding vision and mission, its key research priorities, and its three-phase approach to tangible and scalable impact. Also featured are case studies of priority research streams operating under the auspices of the centre – including the Durumbura Dhurabang Alliance, Smart Green Cities, Living Sea Walls, and more – that leverages the biodiversity of the Wallumattagal campus and its surrounds as a Living Lab.

“Macquarie University is proud to be collaborating with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance to help drive meaningful, sustainable change,” said Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton.
“We are committed to developing sustainable value chains that holistically regenerate the natural world and power prosperity in the local community.”
At the centre’s launch event, CBA CEO, Marc Palahí said: “We are excited to partner with Macquarie University, to help the Harmony Centre connect and collaborate with our incredible network, and to leverage the University’s world-renowned expertise to help realise a genuine nature-first economy.”
