New Ecuador project focuses on regenerative cacao

A new feasibility study will investigate the creation of a CBA Living Lab for regenerative cacao in Ecuador.

The Living Lab would help support family farmers, particularly rural women, youth and Indigenous Peoples and nationalities, who continue to face significant barriers.

CBA Living Labs are inclusive landscape regeneration initiatives that combine strong sustainability and socio-ecological resilience within a concrete local context, promoting long-term harmony between people, production systems and nature.

The feasibility study will be completed in 2026, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It aims to provide the foundations for the design of a CBA Living Lab by building a knowledge base on the actors, capacities and dynamics of the cacao value chain under agroforestry systems, emphasizing the regenerative potential of these landscapes.

The project contributes directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to the Ecuadorian government’s climate commitments by promoting sustainable production, responsible investment, bioeconomy, social inclusion and climate resilience. The CBA would like to thank the Ecuadorian government for their assistance.

The study will be delivered by the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance Advisors Ltd, a trading subsidiary which allows us to work with partners across the globe to further the CBA’s mission and vision.
