Rethinking our economy around nature

Our CEO Marc Palahí gave a keynote speech at the 2025 Børsen Sustainable Summit (Bæredygtig Summit) in Copenhagen on 20 May, about why and how we should rethink our economy around nature: towards a circular bioeconomy.

In his speech, Marc explained that nature is our keynote infrastructure. He took the example of food systems, which are facing the perfect storm of climate change, nature degradation and inefficient value chains.

We need to rethink our economy around nature, moving from an extractive, fossil-based economy to a regenerative, nature-based one. Looking at coffee, for example, we need to move from conventional monoculture based on synthetic inputs and extractive approaches, to regenerative agroforestry with biological inputs and regenerative approaches. This not only reduces carbon emissions, but also improves yields.

A panel discussion then explored how new business models can transform the food sector, including regenerative coffee/cocoa with Sebastian Nielsen (Founder & CEO of CBA Affiliate Member Slow) and upcycling grains from the brewing industry with Aviaja Riemann-Andersen (co-founder & CEO of Agrain).
