CBA CEO Marc Palahí was a keynote speaker at the III Foro Económico y Social del Mediterráneo in Barcelona on 18 June. The Forum is an initiative of the Prensa Ibérica group and the CBA Custodian Member the “la Caixa” Foundation, and brings together institutions, companies, experts and civil society around the major challenges of the Mediterranean area: stability, prosperity, sustainability, housing, mobility, tourism, innovation and social welfare.

In his speech, Marc explored the need to transform our economy around nature, creating a circular bioeconomy – an economy that values and invests in biodiversity and nature-based solutions as the true engine of our economy. An economy that places local communities at the centre of regenerative landscapes and circular bioeconomy value chains. An economy that uses regenerative approaches and circular systems and business models to operate within planetary boundaries. It is an economy adjusted to the ecology of the planet.
“A circular bioeconomy is the most cost-effective and long-term strategy to avoid the unmanageable and to manage the unavoidable. The most scary part of climate change and nature degradation, is not what we know, but what we don’t know. But we know one important thing. Life has been delivering solutions for more than a billion years. Can we ignore such wealth of knowledge in our current situation?”
